Eye on the Prize ( Restoring Love)

Fleeting beauty in the plains of Mother Africa, he sought.

A lovely soul with scars on her skin, revoking memories of past pain.

Determined to win her heart, he chased.

He said he’d make an honest woman out of her.

So he drafted a plan and made it his mission to pursue her.

Like a panther in pursuit of its prey, he chased after her.

With the might of a stallion, working out the heat with the strength of a lion.

His determination never ceasing, his faith and hope never faltering.

He had his eyes on the prize, taking detours, dodging traps and snares.

Like a lunatic, he stalked her and made his presence known.

Like a crazy man, he blew up her cell with text messages and calls.

Like an impatient, obnoxious business client, he filled up her email

with urgent email messages from him.

Leaving flowers at her doorstep, dropping love notes and cards at

her office, buying time and winning her friends and family with his charm.

Persistent to his cause, determined to get his woman,

pushing to make his intentions known, he became

a moving billboard with words inscribed, “I love you”.

Truth in his words, sincerity in his actions, a triumph he got.

So, he took out the belongings of another man that had camped in her heart.

A piece of her that still bled, his love was a reckoning.

Igniting her love, restoring the lost hope and joy in her life.

He showed her care when her feet were cold with a fire that made her melt.

He wooed her with his intelligence, stashing bits of her past and caressing her present.

Completing a task many don’t choose.

Fighting a fight many men lose.

Touching beyond the heart to a place where God dwells.

He became her peace.

A perfect reflection of true love and honor in these times

He painted her dreams on a canvas of life, reflected two moons now.

Canvas like an ocean of water colors, each painting a picture of their

memory now represented in their wedding portrait.

I am an African woman and a mother to a precious little angel. I love to use the term "Afro-floetic Queen" mostly to describe my poetry and my roots. I love poetry...art, soul music and inspirational bits of knowledge to offer advice and counseling to those who need it. I can be very witty, straight forward but fun. Ha. ha... A colorful perception of the world - expressed in my poetry. I want to inspire people with my Poetry...give them hope, while also advising them. Life is a learning process and i am happy when one of my pieces directly affects or inspires one of my readers. Let's take a detour around experience, and let me fill your minds with sweet poetic juices.... Note: Just changed my user name from FloetryC to AfroetryC because the latter is more personal and describes my Spoken Word Poetry better.
