Woes of an employee ( Aka Monday blues)

Come rain or shine, the papers must caress.

Through the blistering cold on rainy days,

muddy paths – sometimes drenched in the rain

to make it through to a chunky, plastered building

bleeding of deadlines, assignments and reports.

Stinking of stress, pressure and inadequacies.

Through the  scorching sun, the mockery of the heat

On hot days, tight lipped and pressing on…for work

must be done to perfection.

Windy days feel no caress, for the slow sails at dusk.

Long days, short nights…the mockery of the alarm clock

and the peculiar love making of the hour hand signaling 5pm.

Frowns and gloomy faces through each meet,

The lines of stress and despair through each greet.

Realities embroidered in fear as job insecurity beckons.

Walking through a night mare, living through a dream

Taking each day as it comes with the deep thrust of

Monday, the start of a new week.

A new day, more responsibilities and new challenges.

Piercing look summoning fate seated in an air conditioned room

Stern face that makes the blood boil causing

hypertensive attacks- enough to cause a stroke.

Making rounds, taking strolls, unannounced checks and hidden threats.

A mark on his forehead to remind you that you’re an employee.

A print on his door that insinuates gratuity for being an employee.

A few good days, a smile to last for some hours.

An effort to keep him rich, perfection to keep his team fat and happy.

Gratitude at the end of the month, a few pennies for a month of hard work,

Pocket change for an employee. Bills must be paid.

A month’s end reason to stir a quick blush, for a hush that beckons a new month.

More challenges, more tasks, more deadlines, more assignments and reports.

The unending cycle, same routine.

I am an African woman and a mother to a precious little angel. I love to use the term "Afro-floetic Queen" mostly to describe my poetry and my roots. I love poetry...art, soul music and inspirational bits of knowledge to offer advice and counseling to those who need it. I can be very witty, straight forward but fun. Ha. ha... A colorful perception of the world - expressed in my poetry. I want to inspire people with my Poetry...give them hope, while also advising them. Life is a learning process and i am happy when one of my pieces directly affects or inspires one of my readers. Let's take a detour around experience, and let me fill your minds with sweet poetic juices.... Note: Just changed my user name from FloetryC to AfroetryC because the latter is more personal and describes my Spoken Word Poetry better.
