Her reflection ( Appreciating a beautiful soul)

She didn’t understand the woman

she had become.

With tears in her eyes, she stared

at her reflection and saw the bruises

on her soul. Abhorring pain, anger,

and disappointment depicted by the

lines on her face and the folds on her

once beautiful skin, she was distressed.

She had become ugly, and bitter.

She hated herself so much and blamed

the people around her for all the problems

in her life. She became angry, bitter, and

negative. She pushed everyone who loved

her away. Always quick to hate and destroy

the happiness of everyone around her.

She was like a black widow. Very spiteful,

vindictive and drowning in self hate, baseless

judgments and labeling. She became a shadow

of her former self. She couldn’t recognize the

lunatic in the reflection. She couldn’t

understand the woman that she had become.

Time must have veered off unceremoniously

at some point as she fought her inner battles

and constantly battled an identity crisis.

Trying to reclaim the woman with a beautiful

soul she knew. In a bid to fix her broken pieces

and let go of the bad attitude and negative energy,

she let go of all her pain and started loving herself,

and appreciating the people in her life.

The bathroom light flickered simultaneously to the

sound of rain drops splattering on the ground.

Suddenly, she started to see her reflection with much

more clarity. Recognizing her faults and mistakes.

Accepting and understanding her pain.

Forgiving herself and everyone in her life.

She wiped the tears from her eyes, gazed at her

reflection one more time and saw her beautiful soul

in the illuminated bathroom mirror for the first time.

She was very pleased, appreciative and smiled.

Finally she understands the woman she is.

I am an African woman and a mother to a precious little angel. I love to use the term "Afro-floetic Queen" mostly to describe my poetry and my roots. I love poetry...art, soul music and inspirational bits of knowledge to offer advice and counseling to those who need it. I can be very witty, straight forward but fun. Ha. ha... A colorful perception of the world - expressed in my poetry. I want to inspire people with my Poetry...give them hope, while also advising them. Life is a learning process and i am happy when one of my pieces directly affects or inspires one of my readers. Let's take a detour around experience, and let me fill your minds with sweet poetic juices.... Note: Just changed my user name from FloetryC to AfroetryC because the latter is more personal and describes my Spoken Word Poetry better.
