For the Depressed….

Dearest Depressed,

The winds of success and happiness blow

on your horizon.

Keep your head up and wear your crown

with pride because you are a star and

the world is your stage to shine.

Wipe that sad make-up off your face

and wear a smile because you’re unique,

blessed and beautiful.

Walk with pride, soaring high like the

African fish eagle.

Appreciate the gift of life and thank

God for your health and all that you have.

Depression has thousands in its pathetic

army walking around with a fake smile

plastered on their faces and has led

many souls into a mass grave.

Pitiful souls leveraging on their

weaknesses and obsessed about

their imperfections.

The reason for feelings of despair and

lowlessness, sadness and self esteem

issues, constant worry and loneliness.

Victims magnified by a clouded mind,

projecting things and dwelling on negativity.

So, dear depressed,

Let go of your pain and fight depression.

Do not let courage go into a vacuum.

Dwell not on your challenges or past

negative experiences but focus on your

strengths and rebuilding your future.

You’re so much stronger than you think.

Look not on your short comings but caress

your Opportunities with zeal.

Shine brighter than Sirius in the earth’s

night sky.

Do not succumb to feelings of unhappiness,

regret, and your mistakes but align with

Happiness, Hope, Love and a Faith that

never falters.

Do not let the world suck you in with

Negativity or let hatred draw scars on

your skin.

You’re wonderfully created, and

When the wave of depression submerges

and you’re drowning, remember that you

know how to swim but demons do not.

Take control of your life, depressed soul.

God has a plan for you.

Seek God and surrender your problems

to him.

The world needs more of your awesomeness

even if you do not feel it or realize it.

Shine like the sun, depressed…wipe that frown

off your face and rise above any challenges.

Smile, depressed.

Wrote this in relation to a poem i wrote last year about depression. I have come across many people who are battling depression – but are afraid to admit that they are depressed because society has somehow made them feel that it’s a taboo to admit that they are suffering from this illness.

So, i wrote this piece to inspire all dealing with depression – while also offering strength and hope.

Hope that this piece strengthens someone.

I am an African woman and a mother to a precious little angel. I love to use the term "Afro-floetic Queen" mostly to describe my poetry and my roots. I love, soul music and inspirational bits of knowledge to offer advice and counseling to those who need it. I can be very witty, straight forward but fun. Ha. ha... A colorful perception of the world - expressed in my poetry. I want to inspire people with my Poetry...give them hope, while also advising them. Life is a learning process and i am happy when one of my pieces directly affects or inspires one of my readers. Let's take a detour around experience, and let me fill your minds with sweet poetic juices.... Note: Just changed my user name from FloetryC to AfroetryC because the latter is more personal and describes my Spoken Word Poetry better.
