The Mask she Wears.

There’s a masquerade party in the

streets and she must brave the

torturous parade of worldly

proportions with a well crafted

mask to feed the world with illusions.

She is skillful at charades and paints

a canvas with more brush strokes

to fake perfection.

Rocking bright red lipstick, fake lashes

and drawn eyebrows to conceal her

true colors from the world.

Rebuilding the edges on her canvas

with uplifts to recreate a structured

happy face, and carving her fake

external facade with confidence.

Behind the ornately designed facial

mask, she secretly dwells -dressed in

the cloak of anonymity.

Living in a semblance of normality

but reality beckons and plays tricks

with her mind.

Showing  vacant expressions and hiding

her true self behind an empty screen.

Trading quick grins and marinated lies

to pay her debt to the human guile.

She Camouflages like the chameleon,

conceals authenticity and genuity

behind scathed veiled remarks.

Using a tone filled with myriad subtleties.

Prompting assumptions and mixed reactions.

She wraps her soul in a lace of lies,

enacting many roles as an actress to

feed the human poll.

Laughing at all the jokes when pain is

smoldering her chest.

Waving the “strong woman” blood

stained banner with worry wrinkling

her brow.

Smiling with everyone when deep

inside she is sad.

Quick to say, “I am alright” when

everything is falling apart.

Pretending not to care, yet she really cares.

Crying herself to sleep every night, but

walking around with a smile every day,

giving the world a fake assumption

that her life is perfect.

She is a cover up- so diffused into the mask

of feigned amiability and shrouding her real

identity with an assumed self.

Beauty, let go of your inhibitions and remove

the fake mask you wear before it crashes

your soul. Open your heart to someone,

and share your soul.

You may conceal your emotions and feelings

only for a while but the mask  you wear will

only cover the whole face but can never

drape the windows to your soul.

The fake mask will wear off after a

while, leaving you feeling vulnerable

and exposed and regretful.

Embrace who you truly are, not the

elegant mask you wear so perfectly.

Be Authentic.

Be Genuine.

Be Yourself.

I am an African woman and a mother to a precious little angel. I love to use the term "Afro-floetic Queen" mostly to describe my poetry and my roots. I love, soul music and inspirational bits of knowledge to offer advice and counseling to those who need it. I can be very witty, straight forward but fun. Ha. ha... A colorful perception of the world - expressed in my poetry. I want to inspire people with my Poetry...give them hope, while also advising them. Life is a learning process and i am happy when one of my pieces directly affects or inspires one of my readers. Let's take a detour around experience, and let me fill your minds with sweet poetic juices.... Note: Just changed my user name from FloetryC to AfroetryC because the latter is more personal and describes my Spoken Word Poetry better.
