Falling in Love with a Poetess (Literally)

Do not fall in love with a poetess because

she will immortalize you with mind blowing

adjectives and all things vintage.

She will write all your flaws and build bridges

over broken paths.

Bury your head under a poetic cloud and

embroider stories about you on quilts.

She will then scribble rhymes on your

nude skin and declare you a classic.

A poetess will analyze every piece of you

and make you her muse.

You will be her source of inspiration; her

poetry vault for future pieces.

She will discover parts of you that you never

thought existed; tickle hidden emotions that

you hide so well.

The way your smile illuminates the room.

The bags under your eyes at dusk’s caress.

The way your eye brows furrow when you’re

lost in deep thought.

Your lyrical outbursts and wit in the presence

of mind stimulating conversations.

She will obsess about your pet peeves, and

romanticize your perks.

Fall in love in love with a poetess at your

own risk because she has a sad soul.

She wears the scars of a thousand heart

breaks; constantly battles with her emotions

and struggles with moodiness and insomnia.

She sees the world for what it is yet chooses

to remain hopeful and optimistic.

Her words bleed out of her skin and her sorrows

are preserved on parchments of paper.

You will eventually hate the poetry engraved

on her soul.

You might despise the poetess that she is-

yet desire her essence of femininity and love her

as a woman.

But to her, you’ll be the love of her life- her

greatest work.

Her lips will tremble when she speaks of you

because she’ll love you with her heart, soul,

mind and body.

She won’t let go unless you do.

Do not fall in love with a poetess because she

loves hard.

She’ll cherish your imperfections and love each scar.

She will piss you off with her brutal honesty and

unfiltered truth.

She is a nutcase, so she won’t prescribe to any bullshit.

She will pay attention to you and make you a priority.

She will take in everything you say like it’s the gospel

truth because she trusts and believes in you.

She will inhale your fiery soul like her addiction to

literature and soul music.

She will write odes to you; praise you in prose and

poetry like you’re the greatest thing that ever walked

the face of the earth.

She will dedicate sweet music to your heart, serenade

you because she’s a love exhibitionist and a

hopeless romantic.

Your picture will be painted on the hardcover of poetry

anthologies  and your love will be stamped on the front

page of writing blogs and poetry magazines.

You will inspire people you’ve never met.

You’ll be on a love overdose.

You will feel intoxicated yet contented- for a poetess

knows no restraint when it comes to passion.

Falling in love with a poetess means falling in love with

her Poetry- loving her soul, reading her heart and

understanding her mind.

Anything short of that dims her star.

In a world filled with so much hate and mediocrity, you’ll

be her light in the darkness; her earth if the love is true.

For a poetess’s love is real-genuine and authentic.

She loves hard.

Do not fall in love with a poetess like me unless you

know what you want.

But… you can follow the trail of my poetic footprints.

You just might feel my presence with each verse…

I am an African woman and a mother to a precious little angel. I love to use the term "Afro-floetic Queen" mostly to describe my poetry and my roots. I love poetry...art, soul music and inspirational bits of knowledge to offer advice and counseling to those who need it. I can be very witty, straight forward but fun. Ha. ha... A colorful perception of the world - expressed in my poetry. I want to inspire people with my Poetry...give them hope, while also advising them. Life is a learning process and i am happy when one of my pieces directly affects or inspires one of my readers. Let's take a detour around experience, and let me fill your minds with sweet poetic juices.... Note: Just changed my user name from FloetryC to AfroetryC because the latter is more personal and describes my Spoken Word Poetry better.
