Mental Penitentiary

Drowning in an illusion of freedom

Ignorant minds molded by society

and driven by the whim of society.

Victims of mental dictatorship caught

in a web of numbness.

Confused minds seated high on

dummy thrones with fake smiles

plastered on their faces convincing

themselves that they are happy.

Corrupted minds bound in chains.

Constantly battling an identity crisis,

gesturing their captivity in somber

tones, narrating their plight in spoken

word while wallowing in self-hate.

Logic protruded, twisted thoughts and

opinions affecting their notions of

beauty and life values.

Embracing a fake identity to impress

other people.

Living off societal thoughts and perceptions.

A mentally crippled generation told what to

wear, eat, believe and think.

Stripped of their culture and forced to accept

inhumane domination.

Taking marinated opinions as the ultimate truth.

Grown men strutting the side-walk in diapers,

afraid of responsibility.

Grown women wallowing in self pity and low

self esteem.

Moving contradictions, oblivious to what’s

going on around them.

Brazen faith, screaming controversy.

Misinterpreted facts, misunderstood intentions.

Minds locked in a mental penitentiary under

solitary confinement.

Brain washed; incapable of thinking on their

own because of hate and fear.

Broken spirits, trapped souls seeking reprieve.

I am an African woman and a mother to a precious little angel. I love to use the term "Afro-floetic Queen" mostly to describe my poetry and my roots. I love poetry...art, soul music and inspirational bits of knowledge to offer advice and counseling to those who need it. I can be very witty, straight forward but fun. Ha. ha... A colorful perception of the world - expressed in my poetry. I want to inspire people with my Poetry...give them hope, while also advising them. Life is a learning process and i am happy when one of my pieces directly affects or inspires one of my readers. Let's take a detour around experience, and let me fill your minds with sweet poetic juices.... Note: Just changed my user name from FloetryC to AfroetryC because the latter is more personal and describes my Spoken Word Poetry better.
